Es war ein sehr trauriger Anlass aus dem wir uns am 15.10. Brandenburger Tor zusammengefunden hatten. Umso schöner war es, nicht alleine dort zu sein, sondern zusammen mit borderline europe – Menschenrechte ohne Grenzen e.V., Women in Exile & Friends, Sea-Watch und vielen anderen all der Menschen zu gedenken, die auf der Flucht gestorben sind. Auch dieses Jahr sind seit Jahresbeginn über 2.500 Menschen im Mittelmeer ertrunken.
Wir fordern ein Ende der Festung Europa, das Ende der Abschottungspolitik und Bewegungsfreiheit für alle Menschen!

Ce fut une très triste occasion à laquelle nous nous étions réunis le 15.10. à Brandenburger Tor. Il était d’autant plus agréable de ne pas être seul là-bas, mais aussi avec borderline europe – Menschenrechte ohne Grenzen e.V., Women in Exile & Friends et Sea-Watch pour commémorer toutes les personnes décédées en fuite. Cette année déjà, plus de 2 500 personnes sont morts en Méditerranée depuis le début de l’année.
Nous exigeons la fin de la forteresse de l’Europe, la fin de la politique de verrouillage et la libre circulation de tous les gens!

It was a very sad occasion for which we had gathered the 10/15 at the Brandenburger Tor. It was all the more nice not to be alone there, but together with borderline europe – Menschenrechte ohne Grenzen e.V., Women in Exile & Friends and Sea-Watch to commemorate all the people who died while searching for a better life. This year too, over 2,500 people have drowned in the Mediterranean since the beginning of the year.
We demand an end to the fortress Europe, the end of the foreclosure policy and freedom of movement for all people!

Hallo und viele Grüße, liebe alle die ihr heute gekommen seid um den Menschen zu gedenken, die auf der Flucht gestorben sind.

borderline-europe ist ein kleiner Berliner Verein, der nun schon 10 Jahre über die Situation der Menschen an den EU-Außengrenzen informiert. Mit unserer Arbeit leisten wir Widerstand gegen die menschenfeindliche Abschottungspolitik der EU und versuchen gegen die Gleichgültigkeit der Politik aber auch der Gesellschaft ein Zeichen der Solidarität zu setzen.
10 Jahre borderline-europe bedeuten leider auch nach 10 Jahren Arbeit gerade jetzt in einem Moment zu sein, in der sich die Situation so zuspitzt wie lange nicht.

Vor kurzem wurde die Iuventa, das Schiff von Jugend Rettet beschlagnahmt.
Die Kriminalisierung und Einschüchterung der Seenotretter*innen, erreicht somit einen neuen Höhepunkt. Die EU etabliert das Ertrinken lassen vieler Menschen als neue Praxis der Grenzabschottung und nimmt so den Verlust von Menschenleben billigend in Kauf. In dem Versuch den Grenzschutz auszulagern und die Verantwortung von sich zu schieben, zahlt die EU Millionen von Euro an mehr als fragwürdige Akteure wie die libysche Küstenwache und Frontex. Sie investiert in sogenannte „Migrationsabkommen“ mit afrikanischen Staaten, und verlagert die Auswirkungen dieser Politik somit wieder von Europa nach Afrika. Durch diese Methode sollen die tödlichen Folgen des europäischen Grenzregimes unsichtbar gemacht werden. Es wird verschleiert, dass viele Fluchtursachen eine direkte Folge kolonialer Kontinuitäten der europäischen Politik in anderen Ländern sind.

Ziel deutscher und europäischer Migrationspolitik ist es, die Ankunft schutzsuchender Personen um jeden Preis zu verhindern. Ein Ausbau der Kontrollen und Grenzschließungen finden in ganz Europa statt. Österreich droht mit der Militarisierung des Brenner-Passes. Die italienisch-französischen Grenze bei Ventimiglia steht unter Dauerüberwachung. Die griechischen Inseln werden immer mehr zu Gefängnissen.

Es wird über Zahlen und Quoten gestritten anstatt zu benennen worum es eigentlich geht:
Die derzeitige europäische Grenzpolitik funktioniert nicht. Sie unterstützt Militärdiktaturen und systematische Menschenrechtsverletzungen. Sie zwingt Menschen zu lebensgefährlichen Überfahrten, und Grenzüberquerungen. Sie versagt auf Sizilien, in Griechenland, in Ungarn genauso wie in Deutschland.

Wir sind heute hier um es anders zu machen. Wir fordern Bewegungsfreiheit und das Recht zu bleiben für alle! Wir wollen eine Gesellschaft ohne Rassismus und Ausbeutung. Unsere Solidarität gegen ihre Gleichgültigkeit. Wir sind froh, heute mit euch hier sein zu können, um uns gegenseitig zu unterstützen.

Hello and welcome to everyone who has come today to commemorate the ones who died seeking a safe life.

borderline-europe is a small group from Berlin, working at informing people about the situation of people at the EU external borders for the last 10 years. Our work contributes to the resistance against the inhumane „Abschottungspolitik“(walls-up policy) of the European Union and tries to create a sign of solidarity against the indifference of politicians and society. Unfortunately, 10 years of borderline-europe also means that after 10 years of work we are now in a situation that is more critical than ever.

Recently, the Iuventa, the ship of Youth Rescues (Jugend rettet) was confiscated. Thus, the criminalisation and intimidation of the sea rescuers reaches a new peak. The EU is establishing the drowning of many people as a new practice of their walls-up policy and thus, is accepting the loss of human lives. In trying to externalise the border control and draw responsibility away from itself, the EU is paying millions of euros to more than questionable Actors, like the Libyan coastguards and Frontex.

It invests in so-called ‘Migration Agreements’ with African states and is outsourcing the consequences of its politics from Europe, to Africa again. With this method, the deadly consequences pertaining to the actions of European border regime are made invisible. Its covered, that many of the flight reasons are a direct result of colonial continuities of the European politics in other countries.

The dictum of the German and European migration policy is to prevent the arrival of persons seeking protection at any costs. An extension of the controls and closing of borders is taking place all over Europe. Austria threatens to militarise the Brenner-crossing. The Italian-French border is under permanent surveillance. The Greek islands are becoming more and more like Jails.
There are disputes about numbers and quotas instead of profound talks about what is actually happening:
The current European border policies do not work. They are supporting military dictatorships and systematic human-rights violators. They are forcing people to life threatening sea and border crossings. In Sicily, in Greece, in Hungary as well as in Germany.

Today we are here to make a difference. We demand freedom of movement and the right to stay for everyone. We want a society without racism and exploitation. Our Solidarity against their Indifference. We are happy that we can be here with you today, where we can support each other.

The European Union is making all sorts of pacts with friendly and unfriendly countries to stop refugees from entering European countries. It is a pity that African countries are partnering and becoming part and parcel of these pacts. African leaders are writing down a history of being responsible for the millions of their nationals’ deaths because of their greediness and power egotism.
Stop negotiating your dirty deals by jeopardizing human lives.
The Maghreb countries are very essential to the European countries if refugee have to be stopped from entering. Their cooperation is very important, if these racist treaties and agencies such as Valetta, Dublin or the Frontex have to be effective. That is why they are looking the other side as refugees drown in the Mediterranean or endanger their lives as they try to jump over the walls to reach Europe.
Why are you doing the European dirty jobs of blocking refugees to reach their destinations?!
European powers will continue using their divide and rule policies, watch people die when crossing deserts and seas and of course plead their innocence in the name of protecting their territories and cultures. What we are experiencing is a first degree of the modern day neo colonialism, racism and dictatorship from European countries. They are taking everything in one hand, our natural resources, land and brain draining our society in exchange of poverty and guns to kill ourselves. Women and children are the ones most affected by these policies, if we talk about climate issues, the big multinational companies, land grabbing, the list is endless. These are just but a few of the reason why we leave. The corrupt regimes in our countries supported by the same governments deporting us, life is becoming unbearable.
That is why we are here today to ask all the governments’ making pacts with Europeans to stop collaborating in stopping migration as they are part and parcel of this exodus. These regimes should reflect on why so many people are leaving, instead of helping the European governments to prevent and endanger their lives on the way to Europe.
We are talking of people who are traumatized from their journeys and lives. We are talking of people who gave their all, to pursue all types of safety for themselves and their families. We are talking of people who have lost everything because of man-made catastrophes. We are talking about human beings!
Stop collaborating with European countries to destroy our lives.
The German Chancellor has been moving from one African country to another, wooing partners to help in building a fortress Europe. As the world focusses on condemning Trump’s rhetoric on his immigration policies, Tunisian, other African governments and the European governments are practically collaborating in same policies of building walls.
How long will we exchange our people’s dignity for corrupted grants?
